About me

My name is
Nathan Jones.

I’m a full-time artist and senior animator in the games industry. I studied at AFTRS (Animation Directing) and have spent the past twenty years working in games and television.

You can see my non-AI artwork on ArtStation.

The aim of this site is to use AI to create an ecosystem that says the things I want said. The domain name says most of it. Silence Is The Trauma. People being silent. People telling others they should be silent. Read into that what you will.

I’m interested in how people are bullied, coerced and intimidated into silence, and how people get away with terrible things because of that silence. I’m also interested in how many of the psychological traits that help people survive and break that silence get pathologised in our society.

Sometimes the discussion becomes about how someone said it, and what they were trying to say never gets answered.

These are character studies in survival from all angles. A living ecosystem of a kind, and a mirror to the real world it augments.

I’m currently turning the whole story, characters and ecosystem into a game.

The best way to view the project is as an art installation. That’s the best description I have.

FAQ

Q: What is all this?
A: Art.
Q: I hate AI. It can’t create art.
A: I like your energy.
Q: Did AI Make this.
A: I used AI as a tool. I write. I sketch. I hum a melody. I argue with AI. AI thinks Ethel is a cold Autistic sociopath... so it can't write my characters. Not yet.
Q: Why do you use it?
A: AI is trained on human data and there are plenty of oversimplified heuristics in that pile. Silence Is The Trauma is, in part, about how heuristics suck so it sort of fits. Also, without AI, I can't build an entire world on my own.
Q: Why have you created this?
A: Have you ever experienced an injustice that can’t be resolved? Art is a great way to hold a mirror up to reality.
